Industry Changes in 2015 – A Year In Review

Its been a busy year for Robinsons and we are looking forward to seeing what 2016 brings!

We thought now would be a good time to take a look back at some of the top stories in the heating, ventilation and renewables industries over the past 12 months.

2015 was the year that oil boiler sales reached a 5-year high and oil prices dropped to a 6-year low across the UK. We believe this will have a lasting impact on the 2016 oil boiler sales.

On the renewables side, Greenpeace predicted that 85% of power would be from wind and solar energy by 2030, with Britain leading the way in renewable technology.

Rewinding back to January this year, the global warming contributor R-22 greenhouse gas was phased out and was officially banned this year from being used in air conditioning system repairs in the UK.

Updated CDM Regulations came into force on 6th April, stating new health and safety requirements of those that work in the construction industry.

Changes were made to The Control of Asbestos Regulations in May this year, meaning medical examinations would be required for all workers carrying out notifiable non-licenced work on asbestos. There were also changes to Electricity Regulations, with a 3rd Amendment to BS 7671: 2008 meaning all new installations after 30th June 2015 must comply.

In the Summer it was announced that, for the first time, the world’s energy consumption had increased without causing an equivalent spike in carbon dioxide emissions. Quite a milestone!

Back in October, the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) introduced new sustainability criteria for biomass and biogas fuel installations.
