Health & Work Strategy Plans Launched

The HSE has recently published new health and work strategy plans detailing what they are doing to help Great Britain work well.

The plans are split into 19 sectors and draft plans announced focus on health safety performance, strategic priorities and proposed actions to meet key objectives. In particular, we’ve been looking at the plans drawn up for the Construction sector.

This sector accounts for approximately 1/4 of all fatal injuries to workers in the UK and with a range of hazardous and dangerous jobs being undertaken by the 2.2million people that work in this industry, the HSE is keen to ensure the health and safety of all workers in the Construction sector.

Did you know that the Construction sector contributes around £97bn to the economy which is equivalent to around 6% of the total economic contributions? Despite the large part this sector plays in our UK economy, many of its hard workers fall victim to injuries or illnesses due to the often hazardous conditions they work in. Lung disease and musculoskeletal disorders are just some of the prevalent injuries from working in this sector.

With that in mind, the new HSE plans focus on the following priorities:

1) Reducing incidents of ill health, with a particular focus on occupational lung disease and musculoskeletal disorders

2)Supporting small businesses to achieve improved risk management and control

3)Embedding the principles of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM)

Adopting a new hashtag, the #HelpGBworkwell motto is the HSE’s key objective.
