An Insight In To Building Management Systems (BMS)

Over the years, we have worked on many large scale building projects in the Yorkshire region which has naturally resulted in a rise in requirement for full-scale building management systems.

Building Management Systems (BMS) are essentially computer-based controls that allow us to monitor the building’s mechanical and electrical equipment. This equipment can comprise of security systems, fire systems, lighting and ventilation, and much more. We take care to ensure that all installations we do adhere to the latest safety standards and offer a streamlined, large scale building management solution.

As a central control system, the BMS can control up to 84% of a building’s energy usage, making it an extremely efficient solution for large businesses. Here are some of the main benefits BMS offers for building owners and building occupants:

Building Owners

Installation of a sound building management system will benefit building owners because of the flexibility they provide – should a premises change occupational use or require an extension, the system can be configured to take into account additional areas that require temperature control, fire detectors, additional lighting etc.

Remote monitoring is also an option, giving business owners peace of mind that their building is being cost-effectively managed.

Building Occupants

For building occupants, comfort is perhaps the most noticeable benefit of a building management system. The correct temperature throughout the building can naturally increase staff productivity and the system allows individual room temperature control. For larger buildings, this is particularly useful.

The building management systems we use are now more commonly known as a BEMS (building energy management system), which is essentially the same control yet with greater emphasis on the addition of the ‘energy’ component.

As a sub-contractor, it is our responsibility to make the building safe for its occupants and this also extends to the comfort experienced throughout the premises. We design and install bespoke control systems which help to deliver cost-effective heating and ventilation solutions all year round.
