Health Risks At Work – A Focus on Skin

Last month we highlighted the Health Risks at Work Initiative (HRAW) and discussed potential breathing risks which may affect you,

You may come into contact with hazardous substances at work and yet don’t fully know the risks associated with skin contact. Prolonged and frequent contact with these substances is where the damage can be caused, so if you regularly handle chemicals, solvents and even find yourself exposed to the sun too frequently at work, this can impact on your skin and cause future issues.

Dermatitis and burns are more common than you might think, and then there is the risk of skin cancer too. If you find your skin gets itchy after completing a task involving a hazardous substance, or you notice any change at all to your skin texture or even your physical state, this could be a health risk.

The HRAW initiative has created a very useful Rapid Reference Card for those concerned that there may be hazardous substances in the workplace that will affect skin. Click here to read it.
